About Author
Promil Pande is an author, academician, designer and researcher working in the area of cultural specificity in textile and craft practices.
During her professional journey of over thirty years Dr. Pande has worked as a design practitioner and an educator allowing practice and academia to influence her work. She has a PhD in Design from the Sushant School of Art and Architecture, Gurgaon; a Dual Masters in Fine Arts and Textile Design Technology from The Moscow Textile Institute, Moscow along with an Executive MBA from the Scuola di Direzione Aziendale (SDA) Bocconi University, Milan.
She is a Member Scientific Board for Review- FrancoAngeli Journals & Series: Design International Member Advisory Board for curriculum development: NIOS, and is on the Advisory Board of School of Creativity, Rishihood University
She has held the position of Dean, professor and visiting professor at GDGU, SU Gurgaon, NIFT Delhi. She is currently engaged in Doctoral Supervision at UID, Karnavati University.
Published in journals and magazines Dr. Pande has authored and edited books on design.
Dr. Pande has been invited as a guest speaker and panellist at different national and international forums. As a designer she designs fabrics through weave and surface explorations for a variety of lifestyle products As a design researcher she has worked on developmental projects with the Ministry of Textiles and UNDP and contributed towards reviving and promoting cultural specificity in indigenous practices. She has exhibited at National and International Design events.
She is Executive Director, The Sidhast Foundation (TSF) www.sidhast.org that she co-founded in 2010. Sid-Hast, literally translates to ‘skilled hand’ and works towards the preservation and evolution of the rich history of Indian craft traditions along with other social initiatives.
At present Dr Pande divides her time between her hill home in Uttarakhand and her visiting commitments across India. She is also working on her next design project and book.
